Camino (lato est), 1545, part.

Built in 1545 by the master Gaspare da Secchia with his son Francesco, it was expanded in the 18th century in imposing manner using “red Verona marble”. At the centre of the flue is a small fresco that is part of the 16th century cycle painted by Nicolò dell’Abate, showing Hercules attempting to slay the invulnerable lion, a gift to the Duke Ercole II d’Este, who fostered the urban renewal of the city together with the city authorities of Modena from the 1530s on.
