In 1886, as his second-year coursework at the Pensionato Poletti academy, Massimiliano Prandini presented this family scene influenced by Tuscan Naturalism and the Macchiaioli group. You can almost hear the voice of the child in the rocking horse, see the dog wag its tail and hear it bark, make out the mother's slight smile and the commanding voice of the military father-figure.
