Set before the fireplace, this stylish inlaid table, with its floral and geometric motifs, is a fine expression of the best local cabinetmaking. It was made in the years just before the French Revolution in Rolo, a small town on the plains to the north-east of Reggio Emilia famous for this type of artefact.
The six chairs, lacquered and upholstered in red velvet and set around the table, reflect another facet of Neoclassicism: originally housed in the Palazzo Ducale of Modena, they are examples of the popular Louis XVI style, which fits in very well with the original furnishings and decor of the building.
