The benches of the Conservatori

The 16th century benches taking up much of the space of this chamber were in fact designed to be used in the adjacent hall and were moved here at the beginning of the 17th century, when the Conservatori began to meet here. The structure recalls that of the Renaissance choirs found in religious buildings, although here employed for civic purposes. The decorative motifs are closely linked to the Renaissance style of the Sala del Fuoco, with its metopes and triglyphs.
